I became involved in the sport of purebred dogs and Basset Hounds along with Janice with the acquisition for our first two Bassets in 1985. At that time, we had no intention of showing our dogs, but little did we know what we were getting in to. With the urging of friends and mentors
in the Fort Dearborn Basset Hound Club, we became involved in both obedience and conformation. Both dogs went on to get titles, one a CD and the other, a Champion. Shortly thereafter, we began our breeding program under the kennel prefix, BlueBelle Bassets. Over the years with limited breeding, we produced many quality litters and champions.

I am a life member of Fort Dearborn, as was Janice. I have been a member of BHCA since 1980 and in 2016, I was honored with life membership. I have held numerous positions within BHCA; Treasurer, Director and Second Vice President. In addition, I am currently President and
Treasurer of the BHCA Foundation. I was approved to judge Basset Hounds in 2001. I have judged at numerous all-breed shows, local specialties, BHCA Regionals, and the BHCA Nationals in 2009 and 2017.

I retired from the investment management business after 34 years in 2013 to care for Jan as her
health worsened. I currently spend most of my time volunteering for the Kane County Office of
Emergency Management. I also hold an elected position in my community as a Trustee of the
Hampshire Fire Protection District.
Thank you to my fellow Fort Dearborn members for asking me to judge.

My first dog was an English Springer Spaniel, My first show dog was an Afghan Hound. My involvement with Basset Hounds goes back to 1979 when I joined the famous English kennel of the Fredwell Basset Hounds, who had bred many great dogs in the sixties and seventies and who had also brought in the first PGBV to the UK. Both breeds needed a new impetus and under my hands, with some judicious outcrosses, the Bassets enjoyed a new lease of life that produced a series of UK Champions until I moved to the US in 1995.

When I came to the USA I brought a couple of bassets with me and bred two litters producing a few champions, but I decided to concentrate on my PBGVs, of which I have bred or owned about 150 champions worldwide.

My judging career started back in the UK. In fact Basset Hounds was the first breed I judged at Championship Shows. Here in the USA, I judge two and a half Groups. I have been privileged to judge Basset Hounds in many countries. They still remain one of my heart breeds! Thank you for
this opportunity to go over your hounds today!
