FIELD TRIAL

JUDGE: Vicki Spencer

Thirty-nine years ago I started showing golden retrievers in obedience. Ten years later I became hooked on conformation.  In 1991 I bought my first Dachshund who became Am DC Can Ch, Int Ch Cherevee Bad News Bear SS, CD, JE, VC.  I am now the proud owner of numerous Grand Dual champions under the Lorindol prefix.

I served the Dachshund Club of America in the capacity of Recording Secretary for 10 years and am currently a Board Director serving as Archivist.  I am also President of the Louisville Dachshund Club, Charter member of Owensboro’s River City Kennel Club (Past President and Secretary) and charter member of the Dog Training Club of Owensboro (past President). I am a retired teacher and instructor with Dream Riders, a riding program for children with special needs. I have had the honor of judging the Dachshund Club of America National Field Trials 3 times. I love everything dog related but I have a special place in my heart watching our dogs do what they were bred to do.

I am honored to be chosen and am looking forward to judging at the Basset Hound Club of America 2023 Nationals Field Trial.

Jan Allison FT Judge

FIELD TRIAL

JUDGE: Jan Allison

I’ve been a Basset person since my first hound, “Budweiser” graced my college experience.

Despite owning pet Bassets off and on for 30 years, I didn’t get “the bug” until the year 2000.  Sara and I were looking for a puppy and went to a Field Trial.  I still remember “Dune”,  Tailgate Desert Dunes running a Jack Rabbit around a full section of land.  It was the most glorious 30 minutes.   I was hooked.

Together we’ve since finished about 20 Hounds in the Field including several that went on to be Grand Field Champions.  We’ve also finished about that many in the Conformation Ring, believing that Hunting and Conformation are complimentary. Several of our Hounds have been titled Dual Champions  We’ve also earned a variety of Hunting Hound titles on several of our dogs.

We’re members of the BHCA and a number of clubs in the West including Basset Hound Club of Whidbey Island, Emerald Empire Basset Hound Fanciers, Greater San Diego Basset Hound Club and our home club, Northern California Basset Hound Club where I’ve served as an officer or board member for about 15 years.   After being FTAC Rep for the Sacramento Club and NorCal, I’ve held the position of BHCA Field Trial Advisory Committee Chair for the past year.

I’ve served as Field Chair and Secretary over the years for both the NorCal and Sacramento Clubs.  I was the Field Trial Chair for the 2015 Nationals.

I judged my first Basset Trial more than 15 years ago after completing the AKC Judging seminar.  Since then, I’ve judged in the Northwest, Northern California, Southern California and most recently in Michigan.  I’m especially proud that Sara and I along with Patti and Gary Palmer were able to help bring Field Trials back to the San Diego and SoCal clubs over 10 years ago after they had been on hiatus for a number of years.   Along with Basset Trials I’ve also been privileged to judge a number of Dachshund Trials in the West.
