SWEEPSTAKES
JUDGE: Bethany Berger
The love affair I have with our precious breed started at a young age, 4 months old to be exact, when a new neighbor - Jane Baetz of Olde Fashion Bassets - moved in next door. She had “a lot” of dogs and I loved spending time with them and learning everything I could… Who would have thought that 40 years later, I would be honored with the privilege of judging your young hopefuls and seasoned veterans, who have made your kennel proud?
I began showing in in 1995, and by 2003 had co-bred my first litter. With help from Jane, Barbara Brandt of Sasquatch Bassets also came to be a dear friend and mentor.

Over the last 28 years, I have bred or co-bred approximately 50 champions under the Olde Fashion prefix, and have obtained championships with numerous other dogs including my loved standard wirehaired dachshunds.

I have been honored to judge various sweepstakes previously, including in the United Kingdom.

Thank you, BHCA members, for the honor of judging your young dogs and beautiful veterans. I would never have been here without the help, support, and love of Jane Baetz and Barbara Brandt. Good Luck to all the exhibitors! As I tell my show dogs in the ring… “Lets Roll!”

DOGS
JUDGE: Monica Rush
I am honored to receive the opportunity from the BHCA membership to judge dogs for the 2023 National event.
I grew up and have been around bassets since I was a very young child. My parents and our family have bred and shown Bassets under the kennel named Pinedell Bassets. My mother and I enjoying traveling together to all the shows and enjoying each other and the dogs. I will continue the breeding program into the future and strive to improve our breed for healthy, well bred, quality dogs that adhere to the breed standard.

I am looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones and seeing beautiful bassets.

BITCHES
Judge: Mimi Tysseling
I acquired my first Basset, Wendell, in 1983. My addiction to the sport of purebred dogs started shortly thereafter when Wendell won Reserve Winners Dog at his first show. I’ve spent the last forty years trying to re-live the excitement of Wendell’s first (and only) “win.”

In 1985 I chose the Silverado prefix as my kennel name and bought my foundation bitch who produced seven champions. In 1997 Jim Tysseling and I married and added Fort Merrill dogs to our breeding program, with which we had a number of notable successes at several National Specialties. I am an AKC Breeder of Merit and have personally exhibited over 45 dogs to their conformation championships and grand championships. I have also owned and shown PBGV, Dachshunds and Pointers – all of which I am approved by AKC to judge.

My goals in basset hounds have been twofold - to breed winners of every conformation award at the BHCA Nationals and to judge the National Specialty. I am honored, thankful and humbled to have twice been selected by the membership to judge Bitches at the BHCA National Specialty and I look forward to an exciting entry!

INTERSEX & JUNIORS
Judge: Mark Chryssanthis
I purchased and started showing my first Basset Hound in 1992 from Rivendell Bassets, and attended my first Nationals in San Diego in 1993. In 1998 I married my best friend, Sandi, and continued to show and breed bassets as part of Sanlyn Basset Hounds.
Over the years I have produced well over 100 Conformation Champions and Field Champions, including a National Specialty winner, GC Ch. Showtime’s Shock and Awe ROM (Sarge).
I am currently licensed to judge Basset Hounds, Dachshunds and Juniors, and am an approved Field Trial Judge for Bassets and Dachshunds.
I currently live in Culver, Oregon, with my dogs, cats, fish, horses, chickens, and turkeys. I enjoy riding my horses and my Harley.
I am honored to be chosen to judge this year’s Nationals in St. Louis and looking forward to seeing everyone at this year’s show.
